Knit Two Together (K2TOG) is a Heritage Lottery funded All Our Stories project aimed at championing the female stories and histories intertwined in the Scottish Borders’ textiles industries as well as celebrating all things knitting.
Together we have organised a programme of free events at Heart of Hawick which combine kitting circles with oral history sessions. These events are an opportunity for women – and men! – in the Scottish Borders to knit, learn to knit, share their secrets, memories and associations with knitting and discover the history of the Border’s textile industries. See the Events section of this website to find out more.
Out of all of this, playwright Sylvia Dow will weave together a new play celebrating women, knitting and Scotland’s social history. Her play will be presented to the public at a rehearsed reading at Heart of Hawick in October 2013.
K2TOG is not just for knitters in the Scottish Borders. We would love knitters the world over to take part and share what knitting means to you. The Share Your Story section of this website is the place for anyone, anywhere to share your knitting secrets. It might be the story of who taught you to knit, confessing your unfinished knitting projects, revealing your favourite knitting pattern or telling us a snippet of the folklore, traditions and histories intertwined with knitting.
